How to go about leasing a horse ?

I'm from S.D. Calif. and I've been very interested on how to go about taking up riding again.
Answers:
Check into taking lessons at a local riding stable. Once you get in, many of them have a horse or two for lease in their barn. Since you are in California, also check out Bay Area Equestrian Network. Just do a Yahoo or Google search, I think it is baen.com but not sure. They serve all over Cali, not just the bay.
Good luck and welcome back!
Check out craigslist, I put my horse up for lease on there and found quite a few interested ppl, and ive seen other people with them on there. Also just try calling people who are trying to sell horses and see if htey would let you. It never hurts to ask!
Look in the yellowpages .under ridingstables or horse leasing
You can check the yellow pages for different stables. Visit them all and see if you like any of them, talk to the trainers. I would suggest taking lessons for a month or so before explicitly looking for a lease for a couple reasons:
1. Owners are reluctant to lease nice horses to strangers and if a trainer can recommend you, you can get a better horse for lease.
2. Trainers know horses for lease in the area, either at their own barn or at others as trainers talk to other area trainers.
Best of luck.
