How to keep yearlings from chewing off their tails with home made products live in Mexico and cant buy comerci

Answers:
Are the yearlings chewing each other's tails or is this yearling chewing his own tail? If there is a group of young-ins chewing tails mix hot pepper with like some one said Vaseline or egg whites (great moisturizer) and cover the tail with it. Soap may leave a rash on the dock of the tail. If a young horse is eating his own tail he may have pin worms, deworm him. You can also try bandaging the tails, then they will chew on the bandages instead, you can also put empty plastic bottles and jugs and buckets in the paddock for them to play with and deter them from eating tails.
Wrap the tail or use a tail bag. That should help. Good luck;^)
Can you get ahold of cowboy magic?
There are several methods that are suggested for decreasing tail chewing in horses. One method is to use your favorite concentrated mane and tail conditioner, such as Cowboy Magic brand (Horse %26 Rider magazine suggested using Cowboy Magic Demineralizer Conditioner Rosewater Herbal Blend), on your mare鈥檚 tail. Thoroughly slather the lower half of the mare鈥檚 tail with full strength conditioner. Since it is gummy, gooey and tastes horrible, while being non-toxic, it discourages tail chewing. Also, once you rinse the conditioner, your mare鈥檚 tail will be soft and luxurious. Just make sure that the conditioner you use is labeled as non-toxic. You could also try wrapping your mare鈥檚 tail or putting it in a tail bag, but most foals will chew on whatever the mare鈥檚 tail is wrapped in and could tear off pieces of the wrapping or bag and eat it. Others have suggested the use of garlic or hot pepper mixed with petroleum jelly, liquid soap, or even Tabasco applied on the tail, but I do not recommend these methods as they are the most likely to cause irritation to the wearer and to delicate foal mucus membranes.
If that doesn't help you can try stimulating her more and adding more nutrients to the diet. Tail chewing is often because of lack of roughage or minerals. Playfulness. Boredom.
Grap some non-toxic liquid soap and rub it all over their tails. Tastes awful - they learn not to pretty quick.
I live in Mexico too, btw. ;-)
We used to use Vaseline and Chile powder, mix it together and rub it in to the hair, it only takes 1 time till they get the idea. or you could just sprikle some Tapitio sauce on the tail?
