How old is to old to break a horse for riding?

Answers:
breaking a horse at 1? 2 or 3 being to late?? WHAT?
Its never to late to break a horse, the difficulty level.. COULD be harder the older they get, depending on what type of handling they have had throughout their life but I've broke 10+ year old horses in and they were easier than some of the 3 year olds I have worked with. I wouldn't expect that if they had been range horses, or not handled much, thats for certain.
when they are no longer phisacly able to
when the are just about to die
when they hurt too much
other than that, never!
Pretty much, the above answer is correct.
As long as it is done gently, correctly, and at a pace acceptable to the horse, a horse can be broken to ride at any age.
Keep in mind, the older a horse is the longer it may take to make him come around, but if you're patient and consistent, you'll get there.
never. but the earlier, the easier.
You can start training a horse whenever. However, after 15, I think the odds of a real success start to decline. At that age the horse is very set in its ways and depending how much training is needed and what type of training you want to do, health issues can start to play a larger part. It is not impossible, it is just that training an older horse can take a much longer amount of time, and needs to be pursued cautiously as the horse's mind and body won't bounce back from any mistakes as quickly as a young horses will.
Best of Luck!
My uncle an i broke a 12 year old in.
We broke a 21 year old broodmare. She turned out to be a delightful pleasure horse. They are never too old as long as they are healthy.
I agree with the most of the above answers. It will be more difficult to break the horse as it gets older ebcause it will develop it's own personal habits that may be hard to break. But, as long as the horse is healthy, safe, and sound, then it should be okay to break. It would just be more difficult as the horse gets older.
When they are to frail and fragile to have someone on their back I would say they are too old.
dunno, but our trainer says three. But then I had a friend who had him break an eight year old high-strung Arabian mare, and she ended up as a horse working with a search and rescue outfit...
You should start breaking a horse when it is about one year old. I think after two or three it would be too late. It's easier when the horse is young because then it can get used to it and will be calm when it gets older.
a horse is never too old to train to ride but it would be better to start at a young age but if u didn't have the oppertonity, it would be better to start as soon as possible.
