1A. Never let a horse stand still while sweating, it will catch a cold. After exercise, always walk it off, then use a sweat scraper and brush with straw or cloth.
2A and B. If you usually ride in a field or soft underground it is not strictly necessary to shoe him. When riding on hard surfaces, shoe your horse.
3A and B. Never enter the ear with your scissors, this can cause serious damage. Gently fold the two long edges of the ear together, the hair that sticks out between the edges can be carefully cut away.
4A If you mean clipping the horse, aka shaving his coat, do it in summer. His coat will not be as full so its easier and it will be nice and cool for the horse.

The right answers aren't all in your multiple choice questions
1.Your horse is sweating. You can:
Let it dry in the wind
Brush it with any good stiff brush
Let it roll
Let it rest a while
Hot days you can hose it down
2 A horse must be shoed.
Depends on the condition of its hooves and what you do with him
We never shoe the back feet on ours fronts only
Horses that pull off their shoes can hurt their feet so no shoes for them
3 When cleaning and grooming a horse, is it important to cut the hair inside the horse's ears.
Only if it鈥檚 full hair
4 What is the best season for cutting horses' hair?
Never cut a horses hair it鈥檚 not a dog, only trim when they need, and a trim doesn鈥檛 matter when.
Autumn and winter is the worst time because the horse is growing a winter coat. I you don't want a winter coat because you show in the winter then blanket the horse. It will retard the growth.
5 Why is bedding used in a stall?
A. To improve the horse's breathing (cuts down on dust)
C. To enable the horse to sleep more comfortably
D. To absorb urine
6 - What is the sweat scraper used for?
B.Wring the hair (of sweat or after you have hosed them down or taken them swimming)
7 - Mules are a cross between:
B.a horse and a donkey

8 - When do you have grease your horse's feet?
Only if you have a problem with dry hooves ask your farrier
if you wont to pass a test or learn about horses study them
dont cheat.
1. Neither, you should hose it off if it is sweating.
2.B) true
3.B) true
4.A) Summer
5.? (sorry I don't Know)
6.B)Wring the hair
7.B) a horse and a donkey
8.A) Once a year
Hope I helped!
1.Never let a sweaty horse stand still - or srink water. You should sponge it down and walk it round so its muscles don't seize up.
2.A horse must be shod every 7-9 weeks, this stops the hoof becoming overgrown and damaged.
3.False- you shouldn't any part of the horses coat- unless clipping it in the winter.
4.When you say 'hair' do you mean coat or mane/tail? If you mean coat then at the beginning of winter, o the horses thick winter coat doesn't get to sweaty, but if you mean mane or tail, then any time.
5.C-D
6.A sweat scraper is used to scrape of the sweat after you have ridden your horse.

Never!
1. A horse should never be put away sweating! He/she should be walked out till dry. If done otherwise he/she can get sick!
2. A horse does not have to be shoed. It can effect thier feet though if you ride on rougher terrain. And even if you don't have your horse shoed you must still maintain there feet with getting them trimmed and cleaning them out.
3. It is not really important to cut the hair in the ears, but it does help if you are showing or something like that, it just helps them look a little more put together.
4. You can cut the horses hair when ever you so choose, but if it is in the colder months you will want to blanket them since thier natural warmth cover will not be there.
5.It is to help make it more comfortable, to help absorb urine, and to help cut down on bacteria growth and it is easier to clean the stall out. It also will help provide some warmth in th cold months.
6. You use it to brush of the excess dripping sweat from your horses coat.
7. Answer B and D are the same since a mare is a horse. But yes.
8. It really depends on your horses feet and what condition they are in.

Hypoallergenicc tack cleaner?

Is there suck a thing? My horse is losing hair around where his leather halter sits. Ive been using the halter on him for about a month and this is the first reaction hes had. I also considered flys as a posible cause Anyone know of any hypoallergenic tack cleaner? Any suggestions? I'll try to get a picture up.
Answers:
If you could get a picture up that would be great. How often are you cleaning your halter and with what product?
And why would your horse be wearing his/her leather halter during turnouts for a period of time that would be long enough to cause a reaction to any soaps or leather conditioning products?
I wouldn't turn out a horse with a halter that would be left unattended for any length of time because of the possibilities of them getting hung up on something and choking to death, breaking their necks etc.
Just my thoughts. Dawn
i dont think a takc cleaner will do anything. his halter may be to tight and is rubbing on him. do you take it off? at night you may want to do s to give his face a break. you can probably put swat on the areas rubbed off just to prevent him itching it. if it still isnt healing, get him a nylon halter, they dont rub as much as leather ones.
Do you think it might just be that it's too tight and rubbing him? Hm- maybe look through leathermagic.com
I believe Murphy's Oil Soap (Murphy's Saddle Soap) in the paste form might be, as it is all natural. I know that many horse owners use it exclusively. I used to be a rep for Colgate-Palmolive and had several distributors order it for cleaning tack.
You might want to try the fuzzy covers that go over the nose band, headstall and side pieces. I've used them on horses before and they work.
I had a horse do this same type of thing once and it was not an allergic reaction, but flies that were biting and laying eggs under his skin. It itched and he rubbed his face raw against the fence posts. What I did was wash the face daily (sometimes twice) with Phisoderm soap (like they use in the doctors office and you can get this at any drugstore.) and then coated his face (and I mean really thick) with Vaseline. The soap killed the batercia and the vaseline helped with the itching and probaly smothered the eggs, plus kept the flies off. You could also use the yellow Furazone ointment. In a few weeks, the itch was gone and the hair was back. I know that this sounds corny, but it did work. This was an old itch cure that I learned from my grandfather. You might want to try this. If it does not show signs of improvement quickly, you should consult your vet.

Hurts! when i ride?

are there any suggestions of what to do? when i ride (english) my crotch eventually starts to hurt. this mostly only happens after i sit the trot for a long time.. i don't wear jeans, so it isn't the seams.. it isn't so bad until after i get home.
i feel better after a day or two (have a lesson twice a week) , but i want to go to a riding camp (riding every day) and don't want it to be a bad or uncomfortable experience.
i am also concerned about it bcause i am worried that it might affect my riding - i have to shift in my seat quite a bit sometimes.. and i don't like stopping a lesson when my crotch hurts instead of my muscles being tired..
this month is no-stirrups month, which makes it worse! i know i have a problem with sinking into the saddle (sitting the canter) and don't want this to add to it..
i have only been riding a year.. and it usually isn't so bad, but it has been red and irritated and even swollen once..
any suggestions? thanks!!
Answers:
being a young rider you probably don't have a perfect seat (something a great number experienced riders don't have ether) and you are probably sitting too stiff and griping the horse with your thighs. try to relax and sit up as strait as you can. you want to be able to feel your seat bones and have equal pressure on both sides, you want your lower back relaxed and your shoulders should be back so your sternum is pushed out and your head is level. make a mental check list of things like this and check your self from time to time. another thing you can try is to ride bare back to improve your seat. if this doesn't help you may need to get a gel pad or try a different saddle. Good Luck
Dont ride?
maybe try to find a way to have extra padding, in that area that would be the only sulution that I can see.
I wonder if the saddle isn't fitting you correctly?
Is there another saddle you could try during a lesson to see if maybe thats the case.
When I used to trailride english I ran into that and it was my saddle. If its the bum part, you can always use A%26D ointment ahead of time and that helps tremendously
I hear stretching helps. You should ride a smaller horse.
I believe they sell padded riding pants, Check it out.. Im not sure of a website but just type it in and look? Actually try this website!
TheEquestrianCorner.com
that sound pretty weird! are you a guy? or a gal? even weirder!! all i can say is maybe youre sitting to far fowards, your sitting on it, you should be sitting back on your butt cheeks i really don't know perhaps if your a gal wear a thick wel padded pad with some soothing lotion? idk, the only time ive ever hurt there was with jeans and crotch seams...
sorry dude.or dudette
don't ride it or use extra pading
Riding english I think hurts more then western. I can't ride english because it hurts so much. I think you can by padded riding pants and other padded things to sit on to be more comfortable.
I had this same thing happen once or twice and I changed a few things about the way I rode. One I got a sheep skin seat saver and I starting sitting a little differently. Can you change saddles? The saddle could be too small or too big for you or the saddle could be a POS. And can you get a sheep skin seat saver or a gel seat saver to use? Then I would try sitting a bit more on your butt bones instead of your crotch and stay soft in your pelvis and rock with the motion instead of getting stiff. And then I would talk to your instructor. I know this might be a bit embarrassing to do but you have got to do something. I have used the sheep skin seat savers many times and I really like them. Not the ones that go part way down or cover the entire saddle just the ones that cover the seat from the cantle to the pommel of the saddle.
And I would certainly be going to the doctor and having things checked out. There could be some other problem. Or this could be causing some problem that could get worse until fixed.
Judging by some of your other answers there sure are a lot of idiots in this world.
Can you try a different saddle? Does your barn have school saddles so you can ride in different styles/brands? Depending on the style (A/O, close contact, stadium jumping, all purpose) and the brand, the saddle's seat and flaps will place you in a slightly different postion-some will tilt you more forwards, some will sit you deeper in the saddle, some will have a very flat seat. The pommel of the saddle will also vary-some pommels will be flatter, some higher, some rounder-if your saddle has a long pommel and a short seat and your pubic bone is prominent, you might need an entirely different saddle-it simply does not suit your body. I worked at a tack store for 2 years, and had 2 customers who had this problem with some saddles and had to be careful when using school saddles at the barn. Both customers ended up buying saddles of their own that better suited their particular anatomy.
Try a different brand/style. Just switching brands might help.
Another thing: does your saddle fit you correctly? Another possibility is that your saddle is too small and you are being pinched between the pommel and the cantle, which could cause rubbing to your groin area. This actually happened to me with the 1st saddle I used to own- a .5 size larger and a wider seat corrected the problem.
To check if it fits you correctly, sit in your saddle, either on the horse or on a sawhorse, in a relaxed manner with your feet properly in your stirrups and sitting up straight. Reach behind you and place your hand sideways between your rear and the edge of the cantle (your pinkie touching your behind, your thumb the edge of the cantle). If the saddle fits correctly, you should be able to fit 4-5 fingers between your behind and the edge of the cantle. Any less and the saddle is too small. I learned this from a certified saddle fitter who did custom saddle fittings for our store customers.
If your barn doesn't have any school saddles you can use, try talking to friends at the barn who have saddles of a different brand or style from yours -just try saddles of the same size or larger than yours; don't go smaller! Ask them if you can ride in their saddle for 20 minutes or so (some people can be leery about lending their saddles, but 20 minutes trotting %26 cantering should be enough to give you a feel for the saddle) because you are considering getting a different one and want to see what theirs feels like (you don't have to give the details if you don't feel like it.) See how it goes.
In the meantime, while riding in your saddle, try using a maxi pad! :) Get the regular (shorter) kind, so it doesn't show through your breeches. This was what I used when I discovered I needed a larger saddle while I waited for my new saddle to come and it worked wonders!
Another option: try bike shorts/pants! Get the padded kind and wear them under your breeches. Or wear the padded long pants instead of breeches. They won't have the clarino patches, but they will work and still keep you cool during those hot summer days at camp.
Third option: a tush cush! (That's what they are called *lol*) Get a seat saver cushion for your saddle. Cashel makes one made of foam (the Tush Cush), Ovation has an awesome gel seat saver (though it's pricier) and you can also get it in sheepskin (about the same price as the gel, but even cushier, IMO). They have straps to attach it to the saddle and keep them in place while you ride. This is a great investment, especially for summer camp or days you spend hours in the saddle. I've included links below so you can take a look at the options available.
Hope this helps! I know what it feels like! A saddle switch might really work, though.
And have FUN at summer riding camp! :D
I would check out a different saddle like previously suggested, just to rule that out.
Are you riding Dressage? Hunter? What?
Hunter and Jumper tends to sit more forward, but still you wouldn't be directly on your crotch (or men wouldn't ride English). Dressage sits deeper and more on their butt.
Sounds like you are sitting way to far forward (now matter what sport you are riding) and putting all your weight on your crotch. You should be sitting more on you butt bones, and stretching up with your body towards the sky. Shoulders back, slight arch to your lower back (to much arch and leaning forward to far would put you on your crotch). If you are equitating properly and using your legs properly, then this would not be happening to you. Is my guess.
Have you talked to your instructor? Maybe you could look into getting a separate instructor, just to help with your equitation?
Also, I would recommend you do some leg exercises to strengthen your inner thigh and calf muscles. A good exercise to try: walk around the house with a ball (soccer, basketball, etc) between your legs at your lower thigh. Your leg muscles are not only to keep you on, but to also keep you in the right position.
This is definitely not good no matter how you look at it. It has to be so hard to enjoy riding when you get into that type of pain! I wish you the best!
I rode jumpers for most of my life and all I can think is maybe the saddle you ride in is too small and that forces you to ride more on the cantle and the pommel then actually riding in the center on the seat. I would definitely talk to your coach about your problems, you don't have go all the way into it with them if you are embarrassed, just say you are having a tough time being comfortable while riding with no stirrups and maybe they can spot something. It would probably help more than getting a bunch of uneducated answers from an internet site! I hope you can get to the bottom of it before it spoils your desire to continue with what you are learning.
Get a Heather Moffatt seat saver - they are made from memory foam so you sink in and it stops you shifting around too, they are great, but I found if I was riding for a long time then I added a sheepskin seat saver over the top! Sounds like a lot and made me sit higher on the saddle but boy was it comfy! Good luck, this product was made for you - look it up on the net and see what you think, there are usually a few on ebay too. I would also either get padded riding pants or if you don't mind the visible line, put a pair of thick underpants over your knickers - all padding helps!
There could be a couple of reasons why you are feeling discomfort.
First, when you sit in the saddle, are you actually sitting on your seat bones? You might be riding with you pelvis tilted too far back, which brings your crotch in contact with the saddle rather than your tush. Try to concentrate how you are sitting and make sure that you are in the correct position. Aside from keeping you more comfortable, this will help keep your seat secure and will improve communication with the horse. Don't be afraid to tell your instructor where you are hurting so she can pay attention to how you are sitting and to make sure that you are in the right position.
When riding without stirrups, focus on keeping your heels as far down as you can manage. This will help keep you in the saddle and if you are sitting with your pelvis in the right position, you won't bounce so much during the canter. The deeper you sit in the saddle, the less you will bounch. Relax your frame so that your body will flex with the horse's movements and not be jarred so sharply.
It could be that you have a particularly hard saddle, so you might want to consider investing in a little padding. There are padded undergarments for riders that help cushion your sensative bits. And if you are going to be out riding for more than an hour at a stretch, you might want to get a saddle pad. They will help make the seat more comfortable.
hi, have you tried a padded seat which you can attach to the saddle?
also, perhaps the horse/saddle you are riding on is too wide for you, if its a riding school you could ask about changing horses but do try a saddle cover, it really helped me get back my 'crotch muscles' after not riiding for ages
hope i helped
Many people have this problem. I dont but alot of people do. I know those flaps on the side bother me. I dont ride english. Only when i ride someone elses horse. But there are sheep skin or whatever pads. Like this: http://www.statelinetack.com/itemdy00.as...
You wont get disqualified at show or anything. Just clean it also. Theres this one : http://www.statelinetack.com/itemdy00.as...

I was riding up and down hills a bunch when I was training my stallion. Ouch!! I started wearing a kotex and taking a hot bath when I got home and saved the bottom half. By the way I am a senior now and have two dents in my behind from a saddle. I was always small, not a bunch of natural padding.
I'm going to make this short and simple.
Could you be sitting your trot incorrectly? eg. too far forward in the saddle, too small/big saddle for your size? Are you bouncing around lots?
You may just be sitting too far forward.
Could it be your pants rubbing?
Talk to a trainer or someone, they might be able to help.
that used to happen to me.. generally its because i was gripping too much with my upper tighs and tensing the muscles there.. relax. it wont hurt as much =]
make sure that your saddle is the proper size for your body it sounds like your saddle may be to small for your body. I think that you may be able to find padded underwear and they do make padding for the seat of your saddle. If the soreness is from friction i have herd that monkey butt powder works well for that
well they sell padded under ware or you could ware bike shorts too (under riding pants). there are also things called seat savers they pad the seat of the saddle and they are removable so you can put them on any saddle.
you can find seat savers at- http://www.doversaddlery.com/search.asp?...
and the underware at- http://www.doversaddlery.com/undergarmen...
If you are posting the trot, this takes time to get used to. If you are sitting the trot, it sounds like the horse is trotting too fast for too long a time for you. Try slowing the horse down so you can enjoy it. Good luck.

Hunter under saddle?

Latley I have noticed that the walk and canter in hunter classes have been getting slower and slower, without much forward impulsion. Are judges scoring better for this? And also headsets- what are judges favoring? And with the posting- should you be slightly forward? I have always watched hunter from the sidelines and i am wanting to get into it. I would like to start showing my three year old app in some green classes this summer. Any advice greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Answers:
It depends on the judge. When I was showing some preferred a "pleasure" horse. And all the western pleasure horses would place high in the hunter classes. Some judges prefer the faster paced hunter horses. I'm not sure what you mean by slightly forward posting but as you go up you're hips should go slightly forward. Headsets are important. You want you're horse collected underneath you. By keeping their nose down you help them do that. But I definately think you should try it. I started out showing in only the hunter classes and I loved it. I eventually got a different horse that was good at western too. But you should do it if only for experience for you and you're horse.
I was wondering the exact same thing. The paces seem to be getting slower, and the head sets just seem to keep dropping.
In a hunter class the judge is looking for a horse that 1. they would like to ride themselves and 2. one that looks like they could hack around in a field all day. The judges tend to favor a lower headset with the nose slightly tucked in but not curled. You want your horse to really move out and swing through their shoulder and reach out. As for the speed, the judges want horses that look very relaxed and easy going, not one that is rushing and looks as if it would tire anytime soon.
Good luck with your showing!
what shows are you talking about? On the quarter horse circuit, they now really look down upon the hunter horses that lope around the arena, they want a forward pace (but controled, the horse should be moving out with a long, flat stride) with the horses head down, and nose slightly poked out, with the rider to have light contact on the horses mouth.
I am not sure of what appoloosas are doing right now, but I would assume they are going in the same direction as the AQHA. Open shows, appoloosas, hunter/jumpers, etc. all have different standereds, so it really depends on where you are going to be showing at as to how your horse should go.

Hunter to western?

Ok... so my horse gets the walk and the jog but doesn't get the lope. She is so used to the faster canter of hunter that it is very difficult to get her slower. I don't want to pull on her mouth too much because she was trained earlier to ride with no bridle. The only reason I put a bridle on her was because of showing. Also she is not the tough training type. She is a very sensitive mare.
Answers:
Slowing down a canter to a lope takes ride time. Often we tend of canter a horse for just a short amount of time and then slow them down. The horse needs to realize that he may be loping a long time. This is best accomplished by riding in a open field perhaps following a fence line and not around and around and around a small circle. (hard on the legs and the brain). The key to a nice western lope is to relax the horse.
Is your horse doing a relaxed slow jog or a collected jig. When the horse walks do you allow it to really walk out relaxed (his ears will flop when he is truly relaxed) or do you try to make him walk slow.
Too many western "pleasure" horses move like they are in a box stiff and draggy. This is hard on the horse both physically and mentally. Moving in a nice balanced frame, relaxed and comfortable for both the horse and the rider should be what western PLEASURE is all about.
Since you already ride English hopefully you understand how to collect a horse and move him off his hindquarters. Lightening the shoulder and relaxing his body and mind should produce a wonderful western lope. Good luck and don't fall for quick fixes such as bitting and training devices. Training a horse takes TIME and Riding. I wish horses came with odometers.
To slow her, practice riding her in small circles at the lope until she slows. Check her with alternating rein.
Getting a lope is a hard thing for even a western horse - it takes a lot of time. Practice, practice, practice. Try using a hackamore on her, so you don't pull on her mouth. A kimberwick is a pretty strong bit. When you ride, think "canter as slow as we can go". Make it a game. How slow can you go without trotting. It will take time, but she will figure it out for sure.
One thing, and I know it's a bad thing - you can let her drop onto her forhand to teach her to lope - she'll slow down naturally if she's on her forehand and you can use that to your advantage.
ok reach way down with ur heals SIT BACK and keep ur feet forward pull the rain closest to the rail and pick up the other rain and hold it there and push her hip over with ur leg(side tward fence) all while asking for the lope and the whole time u are lopeing i promise that this will work and if ur horse has that bad of a mouth problem than keep an ok tight rain on her while doing this

Hunter over fences?

I have to judge an open pleasure show. I have much experience with western riding but english.not so much. What can anyone tell me about Hunter Over Fences?
Answers:
Well, you'll just need Hunter over Fences 101! Try to find back issues of Practical Horsemen - or go and find the current one. In every issue is a segment with one of the top hunter/jumper trainers out there, George Morris. There are three pictures of riders which he points out the flaws and good points.
Basically, the most important part is the appearance of horse and rider. The horses coat should be clean and shinning. The mane should be well braided and the tail should be braided - if not, then it should be combed through, clean, and basically flow gracefully behind the horse. The rider should be in clean tan or beige breeches, tall boots, white undershirt with collar, and a riding jacket (oh yes, and black velvet helmet). The tack should be clean.
As for the actual jumping, the horse should basically be gliding. The pace should be consistent. The horse should not be racing around, it should be slow and rolling. The horse cannot chip in to jumps (going too close to the jump before taking off which you will notice in the abrupt straight up way it jumps, normally a rail will fall from the legs hitting it) nor should the horse take off too early. The strides should be even. It's hard to see when actually jumping, but the front legs should come up tight over the jump.
If the horse knocks a rail down - well, that's basically h/j suicide and you're out of the ribbons unless the class is extremely small or everyone is horrible and knocks down rails.
For a bit better visual, here is a video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=joepkfzlh...
Horse and rider are both clean and well presented. Notice the braids on both mane and tail along with the even strides - notice when it doesn't race to the jumps, but everything stays fairly smooth. If you count the jumps though, on the fourth jump you'll see that the smoothness falls - the rider misjudged the strides, so the horse took two short strides - you'll see how the horse goes down on the forehand instead of staying up as it had before the previous jumps - the horse is trying to slow itself down and calculate how to take the jump properly, something the rider should have already done. So, that would be a no-no. The way the horse took the jump after that was basically perfect - no rushing and perfect striding. The second to last jump was rushed.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qboiqonfo...
This is actually show jumping, but it's a pretty amazing round minus the two rubs on the jumps you'll hear. Notice that the horse and rider are spick and span. The striding is even throughout the whole thing. There is a three jump combination where the rider is almost coming toward you - try to pause it when the horse is mid-air. You will see what I mean by tight legs in the front. The horses legs are up toward the chest, the knees are tight (notice how they are basically square), and tucked under. That is what you want you to see in the hunter ring as the horse jumps.
http://www.sunflowerphoto.com/images/jum...
This is a nice horse - both rider and horse are clean, plus the braids (at least the mane). Notice that the top of the leg is straight horizontal and both legs are even - very imporant. Below that, the leg is a little loose - notice that the hoof is at a downward angle. It should be up. It is hard to find a horse with tight knees though, so this is actually what you should look for. It's near perfection.
http://www.sunflowerphoto.com/julyaugsho...
Now, this is bad. Yes, the top of the leg is horizontal, but notice that the legs are not symmetrical. Notice how the leg closer to you is tigher up than the one farther from you - you do not want that. You basically want the legs to be mirror images of eachother, perfectly lined up together. Not only are these not lined up, but the horse also has a leg that is dragging, which can cause a rail.
Anyway, I hope this helped a bit. Good luck!
Wow... I wouldn't want to be in your position right now.
Judging a HUS class with a western eye will likely make for some unhappy exhibitors. You might be able to pull it off if it's just a fun show or schooling show.
The best thing you could do is search online for HUS videos. You will need to see proper movement that no text-written explanation on there will be able to help you enough to judge a class. Photos will help, but only to an extent. You need to see it in action. Show season is getting underway, perhaps you can attend a nearby show before your own.
Good luck!
In general, hunters are judged on their manners, way of going, and soundness. The trip should be smooth and at an even pace. The horse should leave the ground a distance in front of the jump equal to the height of the fence, and land the same (making a smooth arc). The horse should be on the correct lead, and incomplete lead changes should count against.
If it is a big enough show the mane should be braided, but check the prize list to see if braiding has been required or not recommended.
With hunter over fences, you are looking for a pretty horse (not an ugly one) that has a good rythem throughout the course, its clean, it doesnt miss any leads (or it has FULL lead changes. It also depends what level you are judging at. If you are doing local shows, than the horses doesnt have to be the prettiest. The rider isn't really judged. Their job is to make the horse look good. But the horses are also judged on their form over fences, manners, and their movement. If they buck or rear or stop at a fence, they should automatically be out of the ribbons. That is very bad manners. If a horse has horrible form, they are probably going to knock a rail down. And if they knock a rail down, they are out too. And it is very hard to judge the flat class so be prepared! You can see my video that talks about hunters at:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6b-3grj2...
P.S.: It is my video! lol
I gotta say, that's a bad place to be in.
Hunter is one of those things that sort of needs an experienced eye to judge accurately, but here are the basics.
The horse should be in good weight, well-groomed, with the proper tack and equipment (you'll have to look up the specifics on that part). The rider should be appropriately dressed, also with the appropriate equipment.
The horse's gaits should be above all rhythmic and smooth. They should get all of their leads. If they do a flying change, it should be smooth and correctly executed. The horse should get the correct distances to every fence. The horse should not balk or wiggle when approaching a fence.
The horse's jumping form should be correct; knees up and even, hind legs pulled up over the fence instead of trailing, a good alert expression, etc.
I recommend that you watch some hunter rounds (you can probably see some online) just to get a better idea.

Hunter form?

my horse does not have the natural hunter form, for example, he doesn't hold his knees up and even over jumps.
Other than than he is a great jumper. he loves to jump and can jump over 3 feet at least. does anyone have any suggestions about how to improve his form over jumps?
Answers:
Try using trotting poles before the fence. You can also raise them a few inches off the ground to encourage him to lift his knees and hocks. Adjust the height and distance from the fence accordingly. Believe it or not, encouraging him to use his hind quarters and be round over the fence will also help with his front leg position. Practice trotting over cavallettis. On the flat, stop and back occasionally to get his hindquarters under him, and include collected work at the canter and sitting trot. It never hurts to revisit the basics.
The bounce combination also helps. Oxers have not helped me with this, but jumping a rounded wall has. Especially with the pole before the fence. Sometimes a higher single fence can help too.
Making sure you have enough impulsion is something to look at too...
Geez, sorry I keep rambling. Good luck!
OH! I thought of something else... lol... make sure you stretch him before jumping. There are some stretches for the front leg that most Equine Sports Massage Therapists do. That could help... any possibility, right? :)
Some horses just aren't hunters by nature. And you can only do so much... But what I suggest doing is really building up his forehand muscles so that he has an easier time lifting his legs up and really jumping. Keep his head up and make sure he's not heavy on the forehand and that he's propelling from the back. Practice Practice Practice! Make sure you kick or nudge or crop on take off and get him motivated-- make him over shoot the jump a bit so he will think to pick them up higher. My trainer always suggests oxers and bounce combinations AKA gymnastic lines... Start doing some more oxers with him, maybe some triplets so that he will get into the habit of tucking his legs more.
You cant really help a horse get better form over fences. There are some in humane ways like tieing elastic straps on their legs forcing them to tuck but those are hurtful and incredibly dangerous. Maybe you should try the jumper ring or eventing.
If your horse is jumping 3 feet and is not knocking down fences, it sounds like you need to be showing him in more of a show jumping setting than a "Hunter" setting. Some horses just don't have the natural form that most judges look for when it comes to jumping.
Hmm... maybe he isn't cut out to be a hunter. My horse isn't... but she does great in the regular jumping circuit. There are differences between hunter jumper, and regular jumper circuit. Jumping is just getting the fastest round, without nocking any of the poles down and geting faults. Hunter is more based on form over the fenses rather than the speed. Hope I could help : )
You might want to check you horses physical condition first.
There could be a reason he or she is failing to lift properly on the jumps. Your horse could have a shorter muscle in the area of where the lift motion is directed from. Also keep in mind you horse may have a bone problem that may be keeping them from performing to there maximum ability.
Have you vet come out and watch your horse in there jumping routine. Maybe he or she can define if the issure is medical or if the horse needs more intense jump training.
Unlike what one poster said, building up his forehand will do nothing for you. Worse, it will put your horse on the forehand and will worsen his form over fences.
The best thing you can do is work him correctly. His form may improve if he becomes more balanced, supple, and comfortable working in a frame. This means strengthening the hindquarters rather than the forehand. A horse's "engine" comes from their hind end, and you engage their hocks by riding with a strong active leg. Too many riders just muscle their horses' heads down with a strong rein, but this actually hollows out their backs and creates a false frame. It also makes it difficult for the horse to jump. A good hunter should carry his head just slightly so he can look at where he's jumping, but he should also remain round through his body and flexed at the poll. When he's traveling in a proper frame, he'll jump better than if he's heavy, strung out, or on the forehand to the fence.
Some horses aren't hunters, though. That's why people drop well over fifty thousand for a nice hunter prospect. Made hunters go for well into the six figure range. At lower level shows and unrated competitions, less expensive horses could still take home a ribbon. In rated competition, though, it becomes tougher for those horses to do well. You should try to evaluate your horse honestly for his potential as a hunter. Free jump him if you can. Without a rider on his back to hinder him, you can evaluate his true potential. Most horses jump the best when they're riderless. If he's still awkward or uneven over the fence, you'll have to admit to yourself he may not be cut out to be a hunter. If his form isn't so bad as to be dangerous or if he's still careful enough with his knees that he won't pull a rail, than you may consider making him a jumper. In jumper rounds, form doesn't count, only power, speed, and accuracy.
Hi, I found some useful tips on hunter and jumpers here: http://hunterandjumpersblog.com...
There was plenty of resourceful tips and techniques from a actual rider. Hope it helps.

Hunter braids vs. button braids?

Ok so lately I have been considering doing hunter braids on my horse while showing in my hunter classes. Or are hunter braids and button braids both the same? Because I used to see these cute braids with the loopies instead of making them into the buttons. So instead of 'buttoning' them on the top they lay flat on the horses neck in a little loop. Is that called a hunter braid? Can you do that?
Answers:
Yeah there is a difference. The loop can be done two ways. Braid a small piece of yarn --actually embroidery thread works best- into the each braid. You can use the thread to tie off the braid and then loop back under itself, or you can loop back to the next braid-rolling loop. I personally think the hunter is easier with the rolling loop but try it both ways to see what you like best. Thread is easier on the mane than bands either way.
Good luck, it is tedious but can be lots of fun!
Yes there is a difference between hunter and button as you mentioned.
After braiding the hair, just attach the end of the brade up to the beginning of the brade - usually with thin yarn (unwind a piece of yarn into its 3 pieces). A button brade you roll up like a pinwheel and secure, hunter brade you just fold up and secure.

Hunter Bit?

What in your opioon is the best bit for riding hunter?
Answers:
I think whatever the horse goes in best.
Most hunter horses go in a snaffle. Some full cheek, some D-rings, some Eggbutt.
It really depends on what shows your going into and the bitting rules, and what your horse rides in the best.
It's not the bit, it's the horse that makes a good hunter.
I like a copper eggbutt. Especially for a slightly harder mouthed horse.
Over fences or on the flat?
I prefer a snaffle with a slow twist or a Kimberwick with a broken port.
I personally use a hunter D ring and sometimes a Eggbar. A twisted snaffle might help, but it differs.
I ride hunters in a d ring snaffle. Part of it is made of copper for extra responsiveness.
I like any type of snaffle, but the severity and harshness of the bit just depends on the individual horse. Find out what your horse works best in.
a D-ring is the bit of choice but any snaffle is acceptable (full cheek, loose ring, eggbutt ect). Check with the rules to make sure that the mouth peice is ok to compete with (if it is twisted wire it might not be allowed)
rubber eggbutt snaffle
I like a hard-rubber pelham.

Hunt Seat?

When riding hunt seat i wear breeches and long boots, but i saw a girl riding hunt seat wearing jods short boot and half chaps. What it the difference?
Answers:
Breeches and long boots are more formal i would say-- most people wear short boots and jod with chaps when they are just hacking/putzing around and dont feel like getting their show boots on =) But there isn't really a difference, its just preference!
i don't know
No difference its really just preference when its really hot i usually choose half chaps cause theyre more comfortable walking around the barn in after but it really dosnt matter if your just schooling
nothing i find wearing breeches and tall boots is more comfortable than anything else its really just your prefrence
I have only noticed younger riders wearing the jods. To me it is much more professional to wear the full boot esp when you are being critiqued as well.
It's really just preference when it comes to practice. When I ride I just wear jeans, half chaps, and paddock boots. When you're in a show you should be wearing the formal breeches and jacket, but if you're just riding about you should wear whatever you're comfortable in.
breeches and tall boots are a little more "proffesional" as many shows do not allow chaps, and some shows do not allow paddock boots over a certain age. Really paddock boots and chaps are a little morse casual and are great for practicing, as chaps prevent your legs from getting rubbed.
Best wishes!
In addition to the other great answers, I'll add that long boots give you much more leg stability than short boots. You may not notice a difference immediately, but if you usually wear long boots and then go to short boots, you will likely notice how much less stable your leg will feel. Some people will prefer riding in the short boots because they don't have the extra stiffness -- this is where personal preference comes in.
Jods and jod boots are usually worn by younger riders.

Hunt seat showing?

For my horse's mane and tail what do I do with it?
Answers:
Local shows you just make sure the mane is neatly pulled and that the tail is clean and brushed out. For A circuit shows, braiding of both the mane and tail is expected.
it depends on the level your showing but just to be safe braiding is a good idea.
depending on length of the main i would band so that it is versitile for western or english...if it is like here in michigan english isfirst so i would french braid the tail then take it out for western...
Braid. All of it. French braid the forelock then pull it up like you would a button braid. The mane goes in a bunch of tiny button braids to make the neck look longer. The tail goes in a french braid too but you only take the smallest sections imaginable and pull them horizontally across the tail bone. French braid to the bottom of the tail bone and then continue with a regular braid the rest of the way down. Then, wrap the braid around the bottom of the tail bone and tie it off.
Talk to your trainer or barn manager... It depends on level of show, and the style popular in your region.
Traditionalists will say braid (individual braids that get folded and then secured so that the mane will have dozens of braids going down the neck) the mane after pulling it to about 4 inches in length and braid the tail at least past the tail bone into a french type braid after the tail has been pulled around the dock and the tail has been banged. Both the mane and tail should shine and be clean like brand new.
However, does your horse have a long mane? Are you going to a local schooling show and this is your only show of the season? Maybe altering your horse's appearance is too mcuh for just one show.
If this is a bigger, recognized, or formal show. You better dress and groom the part. Better to be the only one that dressed for the party than the only one who didn't.
Ask at your local tack shop about how people dress and groom for the show series that you are going to ride at. Ask the ring steward or show manager how riders in your division groom for the show.Their phone numbers are ususally on the show bill.
I always had my students braid no matter what kind of show we went to. I think that staying up till late the night before the show braiding is part of the show experience. Most great show memories have nothing to do with winnings or prizes, but the great friendships that you make prepping a horse and meeting people in between classes.
Best wishes
Depends on what kind your horse is, and if you would be showing western on the same day. if you are just doing English you could do a running braid( if your horse has a longish mane ).
get some one to teach you how to do show braids, that require yarn. That looks really nice! unless it is a very big show, just make sure his tail is clean and shiny!! :0) good luck
I would either braid the mane, or just simply pull it. I would do a french braid in the tail and then when you reach the point where the actual tail ends and its just hair, switch to a regular braid, leaving quite a bit out.
button braiding the mane and if you want, you can braid the tail (french braid it). most of the a rated shows do that.

Hunt Coats?

What are the sizes like in Hunt Coats? I don't know what size to get.
Answers:
Most, even higher quality ones, are measured across the chest (not around). This is the case unless based on suit and Euro sizing in which case you can google a standard conversion chart. Anyhow, for most hunt coats you take a current jacket that fits you, lay it flat and measure across the front.
This is to say if you are a man who takes a 44 coat you would wear a 22 jacket. And if you are a woman with a size 40 bust (over your chest, not like undergarment fitting) then you wear a size 20. That's rough of course, your jacket will likely need tailoring once you get it to fit just you and if you are going to have it tailored and you are borderline, go up a size for safe measure. I've always got to get my sleeves let down because my arms a tad too long! If this is all too much trouble you can always have them custom made:
http://www.darkhorseuk.com/hunting_appar...
u mean hunter jumper? my jacket is like, a size 18 slim, other sizes are like 26, or if u are an adult small, ur an 18 (such as me) and then there are childrens larde, which is 16, but its almost like an adult, u need to go to a tack shop, (my grandma owns one called poney express!) and they will get u fitted, good luck!
if you not for sure about sizes you need to go to a local shop and look at the different sizes and styles and try them on. Because each shop's sizing maybe a little different.
Depends on the brands. RJ Classics run close to normal "street size" clothing. So if you wear size 4 dress, then you would wear size 4 coat. Elite and Grand Prix Coats are European sized, best to try one on at the tack store before you buy it. I don't know about the cheaper lines of coats like Devon Aire, Equine Athletics, etc.
A good website with lots of nice hunt coats on it is www.tackroominc.com

How's YOUR day going?

I was having a fabulous day, went to fair and took a great bunch of horse pix. Haven't been to fair in a few years and was so excited to be able to go and walk as I have been in a wheelchair or disabled for so long now. Then I came home and found my 2 year old filly staggering around, completely dead to the world. An hour later, she was humanely euthanized. Possibly West Nile Virus. She had bloodwork done for testing. She will be buried here on the farm. This is just such a shock as she was totally a 2 year old pest yesterday and today I had to make this decision to end her life. I just couldn't let her suffer any longer, knowing it was so bad she probably would not even survive the treatment. Have you hugged your horse today? Because you never know when it may be your last chance to do so.
Answers:
I a very sorry to hear about your horse maybe God need a young horse for a little girl in heaven.
Your day It make mine day seem OK...I went to work and was very productive. Plus it was Friday to boot, not bad.
God bless and sorry the day turned out so crummy.
You must feel soooo lonely.
my day is going too slow!
Mine is going better than yours, and I've been at work all day.
Uhh yea i'll do that,i'll tell my friends too cuz everyone I know has a horse...
sunburn sucks ***
OHHH, I'm so very sorry for your loss. It's terrible to lose a friend. I grieve with you. I don't own a horse, I have a chihuahua, and I am an animal lover. Again, I'm very sorry for you.
my day is ging okay, its just a little too hot. anyway im super!! thanx for asking!
Fine thanks for asking PS i didnt read about your day it is too long
Aww! I won't bother talking about how my day has been.. Seems like cake compared to yours. I asbolutely hate losing my friends. My mom would scold me for crying when one of my puppies died (runt) among other pets and it just feels horrible.. That really is a shocker! You'd think an animal as magnificent as a horse would be able to stsand up to diseases just because but they're just as vulnerable as anyone.. I'm so so so sorry to hear that. Hope you're coping well %26lt;3
That is so sad. Your in my prayers.
that's just sad. do dogs count? b/c i hugged my dog.
Sorry for your loss.
To be honest with you ,it's not been up to parr,so I guess this here libra is out of balance.
My day is going great! I can't wait intill i can watch High School Musical 2 with my family!
Sorry about your horse...
My day...severe headache...and I can only sit and watch my friend chatting and partying around me...
im sorry about your loss. i would hug my horse if i had one. :)
my day has been ok. i took a long nap. :P
The things some people say on here! Like the first
one and below me. I am sure you knew your animal
was very sick.
I am sorry for the loss of your horse, animals are like
family to me.
You murdered your filly just because it was staggering around after 1 hour? that is shocking.
We all have our bad spells - both people and animals. We can't be 100% focused 24 hours a day. I think you should have waited a bit longer before murdering and innocent animal.
"Fools rush in where angels fear to tread".
sorry to hear that
I actually dropped a beer
set it on the railing and it just fell, I was talking with a neighbor so I was distracted, didn't notice where I set it down
the first time that happened to me in decades
don't cry over spilled Guinness I guess
My day is alright, except for my sunburn and being sore all over from going on too many water slides yesterday.
thats really sad. i'm sorry about your horse, its hard to lose any pet, but you get so close to your horse its like losing a person practically. And for it to be all of a sudden must have been aweful. I shall hug many horses in memory of you and yours :) hope the rest of your days improve. I'm sorry for your loss.
I love horses and grew up with them as a kid. It is like losing part of the family. My condolences for your loss. I'm sure she was a special friend to you and a big part of your life.
So far, so good, but it's only 33 minutes old - so a bit early to tell.
Sorry about your horse.
I love my animals too and will be heartbroken if they pass on before me.
Sorry to hear that. No I haven't hugged my horse today, she has a 'Do Not Disturb' sign on the barn door. She loves a sleep in. Maybe this afternoon. Apart from that, my day is going great!
Oh that sucks, I'm sorry.
I had a pretty good day other than discovering that someone had left Ell's splint boots on all night and not closed his stallguard or stall door when they put him away last night, poor boy. Other than that I had my lesson, worked and hung around. The only bad thing was finding out Bear(a horse at the stable I watch when his owner goes on vacation) is dying of cancer, but he has been for a long time and I've only just found out about it so it's not so bad and I know his owner is doing everything to make his last few months comfortable, he was almost put down last week apparently but he got better so he might have a few more months in him.
That must be very hard for you and you have my sympathy. However, take some comfort from the fact that you did the right thing by her and didn't let her suffer. The gesture is worth a million words.
I'm feeling kinda excited but nervous at the same time. I'm expecting a new horse in the next week!
You are so right. Make sure you hug your horse and tell your family that you you love them. As much as possible. You never know when a tragedy like this will strike. You have my deepest sympathy and we will keep you in our prayers.
I am sorry!! Hugged mine today.

Howrse.com??

I just got an account...what now?? it looks like i have to pay for everything and i have to be on like level 3 to do anything. What do i do?? can i buy more horses? i am totally helpless and have no idea what to do!
Answers:
Well, I was just like you. You simply feed your horse, put it too bed. For a while, you won't be able to do much with your horse. As it ages, you get access to more things. You can take quizzes so that your riding level increases. THAT is the main thing that accessed more pages. And of course, there's a condition: You can only take tests after being registered for a certain time. You are only considered registered for every day that you log in. Oh! Also! Be sure to put your horse to bed every night. After you've done something with your horse, it shows up under your horses picture. It also says the time (in army appearance). Make sure that your horse gets to bed before 22:00.

There is no need to pay for anything with real money. You can buy passes with real money, but you can also go without them.
*Buying a pass will be the only thing on howrse that requires real money.
Passes can get you special stuff in the black market.
You can also find passes around the website. And you can win a pass with the summer contest they have going right now.
If you want to talk or ask more questions my user name is Iron.Horse
i have one too..my name is

stick around with howrse and you'll probably get addicted, and soon the game will become fun :)
make sure to log on every day in order to progress faster in the game to get you more into it
i would wait to buy another horse yet . . . i would say to just get to know the rules and know of the game by reading the breeder's manual and such. focus on your horse, first just looking after it and as it grows, playing with it and then training it, then competing with it. the game will get more fun as you go along :)

Age your horse

Howrse.com? How much to passes cost?

I'm arabian_rider96 on www.howrse.com. I'm leaving town for a 5 days tomarrow and my horse is having a foal in 2 days. I need a pass so I can buy ageing points to age her and make her have the baby. I need a pass and I was wondering how much they cost.
Answers:
I don't know how much they cost $ wise, but if you've been on there long enough you should be able to buy passes with your reserve equus.
Otherwise you might want to ask on howrse--I know there are people on there that buy passes. I don't figure it's worth wasting my money over. I just wait for passes to 'come' to me.
But I hope you will be able to buy one! I love it when my mare have foals- I've had two so far! Heze Of The Brine (sold) and Loui Eight Something. I'll keep Loui. Geld him and use him as a lesson horse.
Good luck with getting some aging points!
The only time time passes is when you log on so your horse will be the same age when you log on again.
well if you have crystals you can buy one or ten passes if ou are quick but no time will pass on the game if you do not log in.

Howrse.com: Naming my horse?

Can your howrse have the same name as a dead howrse or a howrse in "heaven"?
Answers:
yes, you can name your anything, even if you had another horse that died or someone named their horse a certain name you want :) good luck! username: backinthesaddle (on Howrse) good luck!
Maybe...
I would just try the name and if it works good but if not then you could try respelling the name a different way.
probably. i go on that website. if your horse dies, where do you make a new one? i have no other horses exept the dead one
why not? if u like the name and your not offending anyone go 4 it!!
Yes, it can have the same name. It doesn't matter. And to Kiki, if you passed riding level 2, you can buy a horse in the auctions or go to your profile and scroll to the bottom. it says "restart game" so click that if you want a horse for free. but you lose everything else.
i think that would be ok
Howrse is great.
i'm in the auctions right now, and some punk is trying to get this horse i want! (Licorice)
none of my horses are dead, so i dunno.
i only have one horse, Unbridled King.
Yes you can. My account on Howrse.com is Rose Frost.
Why not? Should be fine. I'd do it myself!

Howrse.com ??

what is howrse.com?? is it fun what do you do does it cost money?
Answers:
yea i go on it all the time. you can get your own horse breed them show in competions. it is free unless you buy passes which you don't have to do its just nice to have some. right now is the summer contest and you can win passes. come check it out
Yes, its fun but you have to but these thing called "credits" to buy any thing other that brushes and food.
My daugher plays on it and likes it very much - it is free..I believe you create virtual horses, take care of them and then sell them, buy them, trade them etc.
yeah its fun its free to the only thing you have to pay for is passes which i don't buy anyway so its absolutley free
howrse.com is a great game you can raise a horse from a baby and train it and show it. it is free but you can also spend real money and get more stuff on the game like extras for you horses. you will go up in levels and can run and manage your own eqine center. If you need any help on the game let me know. my name there is hannah83. you can also buy and sell horses and breed your own horses. it is a great game. you should join.
My little sister plays and it's free. It looks like a lot of fun I've tried it a couple of times. You can do almost anything on it. Another site is horseland.com it's like howrse.com, but you can get to different levels. One level cost money, but on that level you can board and train horses. I personally like horseland better.
Howrse is a horse breeding and equestrian center management game
howrse is a game where you have a breeding stud. it can cost money if you want passes but if you dont want them you dont need them anyway i am one of the best players on the game and i have never spent any money!!
you start off with a horse of your choice and you train them and when they are old enough you can breed them and then keep breeding them. when you get to riding level 2, a riding level is where you pass a set of questions (usually every ten days) to advance in your job, unlock areas etc.) you can access the sales to buy more horses once you have passed level two and you can sell them there to make money. ummm you can do lots of things o yes it is very fun and no it doesnt cost money!! you should sign up because it is a brilliant game.
It's basically a very complex virtual horse website.
You can buy passes to get special items but you can earn them for free.
It's a great game unlike any game I've come across before.
ive noticed that everyone that responded to your question had a positive statement about howrse. i personally found it extremely complex and rather hard to understand. i've ridden since i was about six years old so i know the lingo and everything but it's just not designed very well. if you're looking for more of a cartoon/easy to understand game i would suggest horseland.com
howrse.com is a place where you can breed pretend horses and open a center and try to become the best breeder. I think it is fun but some people don't like it all too much. It is free but you can buy passes to get special items, but that does cost money. you can get passes though without paying.

Howrse.com ?

ok so everyone has been talking about this site so i checked it out and it looks so fun but since i just sighned up i have alot of questions so can you tell me how long it takes before you can actually start doing stuff with your horse ?(real time ) and if you have any thing else to tell me im all ears .
Answers:
You can age your horse with aging points, making it older and able to do more things. I reccommend you don't do that, though. Every real day your horse will age 2 months. What do you mean by doing stuff? Like playing games? Well, if you look at the left side it will tell you your horse's next deadlines. As soon as your horse reaches that age, they may do that thing! The time will vary. Most newbies use up all their aging points in one day which is a bad idea. If you don't use any, it will take longer in real life time but your horse will live longer! Sorry this is so long. One more thing! Go to the top of the screen and click on the sixth button, between the letter picture and the trophy picture. This is the Centaur. Then click on the hat picture which is the players. Type in Horseyangel and you will find me! You can click "send a message to this breeder" and ask me for tips. I'm really advanced in the game so I will always help!
Im new to this site. Never heard of it, never been to it. How fun are we saying about?
i sined up IT SUCKS to much money to spend, try virtualhorseranch.com.u can have 10 horses, chat its cool.also try virtualpups.com!!
well first off you should put me, black pegasus, up as your sponser :D
next to do all the stuff you can with a little horse only takes about 5 minutes with an adult horse you can do show which takes longer about 10 minutes
if you mean when your horse grows up a real day to us is 2months to your howrse so i think its its like 20months before your first ride so thats like 10 days but you can also use aging points and its just right under put your howrse to bed "age my horse"
cheapest horse at an auction is 500 equus
and turnips at their cheapest are about 40 e
and if you see apples on sale buy them!!!! there are big spikes and famines in the apple business
thats about it!! you can learn the most by just looking at other ppls pages and checking out the centuar etc etc
ps never!!! ask us for help on your riding levels!! thats cheating!!!

Howrse!! im still kinda confused about this game. if u can answer some questions that be great!!?

Lets say i run out of aging points, so i put my horse to bed. would it wake up at midnight cause thats the next day? idk please answer. plus, if my freind never uses her ageing points on her horse, can she give hers to me somehow? please answer me. thanks!!!
Answers:
ur horse goes to bed at ten and u cant do anythign until after 8 the next morning. Ur horse will sleep all through the night. dotn worry and good luck.
This would probably fall under the "Online Games" category, not horses.
no. your horse would not "wake up at midnight cause thats the next day". it would "wake up" the next time you log in and take care of that horse. unfortunately, your friend can't give you her aging points. don't use up all of them on one horse though... horses "die" and go to "horse heaven" when they're older.
Your horse will not wake up at midnight. My horse wakes up at 8.
And your friend cannot give you aging points
The horse wakes up at 8 but it ages 2 months every night!im horsez135 view my page!!and ive tried but theres no way to donate aging points!!SOrry!
it depends on where you are from on when your day starts and ends the game is reset each night at a certain time for example I usually get on at 11pm and I canusually play again after 3 am just depends on when the game is reset for the next day the site is usually shut down for 30 min to do this and no sorry you cannot share aging points your horse ages by 2 months everynight that you put it to bed well hope this helps you out
Your horse will age by two months during the night when you put it to sleep. It depends on the update time. Each day, Howrse admin shut the site for 15 mins to update to a new day. Not sure where you live, but Australia, QLD it is 5pm. After that then it is a new day. Remember the time differences on the game and in real life.
yes, it's frustrating for me too. When you run out of aging points, and you put your horse to bed, then he will not wake up until the next real-life day. Then you can play the game all over again. I don't know if you can give aging points to another player, I've never tried it.

1. Pull on the reins
2. Yes
3. Rabies, Horse Flu
1.)If you truly don't know how to return to the walk you probably shouldn't be cantering (or riding!) I actually use my seat for all gait transitions, but if there is an emergency and you need to stop first sit up straight and stretch you leg down and then slowly but steadily use one rein to bend your horse to a stop. It isn't the prettiest halt in the world but it is the safest and the most fair for your horse as well.
2.) Too much anything can cause diarreah. Especially if it is a food the horse isn't used to. There are healthy bacteria the horse needs to digest foods and there may not be enough of a certain type to digest certain foods. If your horse gets mild diarrea give him a tube of ProBios or any probiotics.
3.) The only thing you need to compete in the USA is a negative coggins. Some 4-H shows require proof of rabies shots. It is definitely wise to have your horse fully inoculated though. Your vet can tell you which vaccines are needed in your area.

Howrse racing and money?

Yes i mean the online video game howrse.com not a real horse.
i know this should be under online games, but no one ever answers me wen i ask a question about howrse on there.
Ok, my mare just had a foal, and theyre doing great, the only problem is my money levels. I only have about 200$. About what level or skills or watever do i need to raise a horse that can do ok in the races so i can earn some money.
My horse currently has one star filled in on everything on the skills. im going to train her on just speed and jumping from now on so she will have a better chance on winning, is that a good idea? please help me.
Answers:

sell the baby! you need money and you can buy one with the money you make from the baby and i'd buy a boy horse so you can put him up for stud anyway no matter how much you think that horse is worth put it up for sale for about 800 and somebody will bid for it and thats a lot better than going broke and having to sell both of them oh and you can sell their manure if you go to the shop
hope i helped
yes it is a brilliant idea! you dont need heeps of skill because your horse goes in the skill category when showing on howrse
i love that game!
I think training them in something their breed is good at is a good idea because they will have more chance of winning.
Train her in stamina as well as this is useful.

Howrse Questions!?

I want to breed my mare with a good male, what should i look for?
My mares energy is low, is there anything i can do?
Do i ever get more aging points?
How do you get the morale up?
Does is cost you anything to put your mare to sleep at night?
How much should my mare weight at 2 1/2 years old?
It says my mares to thin and i feed her like crazy!?
What temp. does it have to put my mare to sleep in the meadow?
Lol i have alot of questions, sorry!
Answers:
To give your mare more energy, you can give her turnips, carrots, apples or you can put her in a pasture for a few hours. Sometimes you can find aging points just by doing normal activities, or you can also buy them with real money. It does not cost any money to put your horse in the box for the night if she is registered with a boarding stable. There is no set limit of what your horse should weigh but if it says she is too thin you should feed her more. If it says you should feed her eight pounds of food a day, then feed her ten or eleven for a few days. To put a horse to sleep in the meadow, it should be above 10 degrees. Hope this helps.
"put your mare to sleep" can you expand on that?? What are you meaning by that statement?
Look, yes anastetics cost alot. It also costs to breed
is this on a virtual site? because you cant do that in real life!
I'm lost here --- what is the question??
Howrse is a virtual site, well kind of it is a SIM/RPG. I would ask a moderator
Sorry but I dont think you are going to get your answers on this site. Most people will probably just assume you spelt Horse wrong. My little cousin plays Howrse so I know what it is. But I agree with asking the moderator of the site/game, we only have the answers for real horses! Good luck!

Howrse questions need answers ASAP 2?

1. Can horses get tetanus?
a. yes
b. no
2. How many breeds of horses are there 2day?
a. 0-49
b. 50-99
c. +100
3. What is one of the essential factors for a horse's fitness and form?
a. work
b. rest
c. abundant food
THANK YOU!
Answers:
1. Yes a horse can get tetanus. A horse should always be vaccinated for tetanus! Its very important. A horse with tetanus (also called lockjaw), can easily die. It effects the nervous system (the brain and spinal cord). Earliest symptoms include becoming very stiff throughout the body, extreme sensitivity (I.E. the horse is very nervous and jumps when touched), and protrusion of the third eyelid. Later on colic, loud noises, and sweating occur. They must be treated with tetanus antitoxin and antibiotics even if vaccinated. Vaccinated horses have a much better chance of pulling through. A friend of mine had a horse die of what I personally believe was tetanus.
2. I'd guess C would be the answer. I really believe there are several hundred different breeds.
3. All three of these are important for the health of the horse, but out of the three, I'd say that abundant food is the most important. If the horse is starving, it will be too weak to exercise, it can't build healthy muscle, and no amount of rest will help the fact that it isn't eating enough.

HOWRSE Question?

ok so why is my mare not being trained because i have a bridle and saddle and shoes and the training stars wont fill! the skills are starting to but not all the way!
HELP!
Answers:
Ok the bridle and saddle and shoes fill the skills stars, If you want to fill the stars on the right hand side i.e Speed
Just click the word Speed and a drop down list should appear for how long you want to train.
Basically the right hand skills and left hand skills have to be done separately.
If ya want to ask me anymore questions my user name is panic1
you need to train with her everyday for about 2 hours
If you mean the finished result, horses have different stats and rarely fill all the stars
you must train her everyday, here's a link to CraXoR's forum explaining how to train properly and max your horse's skills:
http://www.howrse.com/centre/forum/sujet...
if you need more help figuring things out, email me and i'll be glad to explain things...
(btw you train for more than 2 hours... i train up to about 5 hours lol)
You need to know how to train. If you aren't experienced, hire a trainer. That will give you the best horse out of the deal.
what the?? man this is like a 12345678910+ page book to try and begin to tell you on "how to start a horse" !!!!
all i have to say is to start reading!!

You might want to move this question over to the computer/gaming section. You may have better luck getting the proper response to your question.

Howrse Question?

what's the best schedule for a Canadian horse on howrse if you don't have any carrots or salt blocks, I've already maxed the training on stamina, jumping and dressage, how do i get the gold stars to go up more? i'm still new to this game btw
here's her page http://www.howrse.com/elevage/fiche/?id=...
Answers:
To get her skills stars to go up higher enter your horse in morse competitions relating to what you want to further her training in. Like if you want to get more stars in the stamina section enter her in a compitition for cross country.
try feeding your horse some oats thats a favorite of there's they also love alfalpha hay but check with your local vet and se if he is alergic to anything

Howrse Question?

I know some people are getting sick of people asking questions about howrse, myself included. However,I'm even more sick of those replys "Don't you know how to spell Horse? It's h-o-r-s-e, not hor-w-se." Yes, the majority of us DO know how to spell horse, and the people who are asking questions about howrse would appreciate it if you not post when you don't know about the game.
Answers:
Good point, and I think it is helpful if people are specific in their question and actually put Howrse (wow that's hard to type correctly! lol). So that way those who do not play can skip the Q and go on to real horse Q's if that is their fancy.
Esp since most of us know that hoWrse is not a typo!
Thanks for your post!
Well it might help if you posted your question as .
Howrse (the game) question?
do your own homework and tests! if you can't you don't need a horse!
I see your point however there are many people that don't know what Howrse is so it is understandable how they can think that it was just misspelled. At first I thought it was a little kid misspelling horse and I had never heard of Howrse. Now I get just as irritated as the next person.
What really irritates me is the people who say they have a serious HORSE question then it is about HOWRSE. They just need to go to the gaming section.

Howrse Question.. The expression "lame duck"?

I've never heard of this, and I can't find it on a google search! Does it mean "good for nothing"?
Answers:
Straight from this website for riding level four, these two answers are correct (check both of them to get the question right)
Q:The expression "lame duck"
A's:
- Designates someone that is lazy
- Comes from the fact that horses suffering from emphysema, in the age of cavalry, were considered as "good for nothing"
Here's the website:
http://howrse.free.fr/ridlevel4.php...
good luck
if you have any more questions, my username is backinthesaddle
You know, I looked for it too and couldn't find it.
Politically, a "Lame duck" is an elected official who, either was not re-elected and is serving out the last few months of their term...or an elected official who has been elected for his or her last term and can't run for re-election due to term limitation. Ah but that is an answer for the Politics section, right?
It used to mean they didn't really have to do anything...but nowadays, I'd love to see it mean they have nothing to lose so they can try to keep a few of their promises that they reneged upon for whatever reason.
Since it's a political term, if "worthless" is an option, I'd lean towards that just because of the nature of politics today. LOL.
The expression "lame duck" refers to a horse as being lame. That doesn't mean "not cool" it just means that there is a problem with the horses hooves or legs and it is limping

Howrse Question sry (not riding levels)?

My horse has 1% energy because she was covered .. what are ways to get her energy up? i already gave her a turnip and my center doesn't have any carrots... one 1 hour till midnight..don't want her to die
Answers:
Whoa thats risky... Do you have a pass? Because if you do you should try to buy the revive thing just in case in advanced so that if she does die you don't have to worry about it... Im sorry if you dont have a pass because if you dont then your in trouble...
Whats your screen name? I could maybe give you something from my account to help your horse. BTW my screen name is Victoria1604, and my Stable is Silver Creek Stables And my stables has loads of Carrots. Literally I get 3 truck loads every week. So you can board at my stables. Its only 10.00 a night and my prestige is 4 stars :) So go ahead and board at my stables in order to save your horse or just get another stables
with carrots... Ok well good luck for your horse and message me on Howrse if you need anything.
OK well hope I helped,
-Katheryne (Katey)
This is very confusing to read. Call a vet out. Check for gut sounds. If she doesnt have any gut sounds most likely she is colicing. If she is dont let her lay down, or roll. Walk her around. If she tries to lay down make her get up (Throw a rope at her, and yell) Call a vet.
This is a strange question. Are you sure she needs anything other than rest? It would be normal to be exhausted. She is more likely to be dehydrated, does anyone on your yard have some rehydration powder or salts? If so mix it into a paste to get it down her quicker and put some in her water too. If you really feel she needs energy then you could try mints, they are full of sugar, but it is much more likely to be dehydration, which can be very nasty if you don't deal with it - get fluid and rehydration stuff down her as quickly as you can - if you are still very concerned then get a vet. Good luck, hope all goes well.
Put her in her pasture for a hour-- actually if it is that close to midnight she should be sleeping.
use fat to give her or him more energy. maybe 3 scoops if ur riding and 2 later for night time
Is this a question about a game? or a real horse?
Why does everyone keep asking questions about this game? This section is for real horses and real questions. I hate having to read something to find out it is for a game and not at real life situation. For all of you please find another place to post you questions!!
If she is serious enough that you are worrying about her dieing you need to call the vet
Hey everybody, Howrse is an online game.
I would suggest putting her in the pasture if you don't have a pass. Hope she lives!!
please, this is a computer game question and this is the horse section. Even though the game is about horses this question doesn't really have anything to do with horses.
What is with all the sudden howrse questions anyway? I played that game and hated it! There are way too many rules, no talking abuot other games..no breathing (not rlly but it will probably come to that)... and the "karma" points are just a gimic to get you to buy points and get more people to join which means they are taken away for all the right reasons but given for all the WRONG reasons.
