Hunt seat showing?

For my horse's mane and tail what do I do with it?
Answers:
Local shows you just make sure the mane is neatly pulled and that the tail is clean and brushed out. For A circuit shows, braiding of both the mane and tail is expected.
it depends on the level your showing but just to be safe braiding is a good idea.
depending on length of the main i would band so that it is versitile for western or english...if it is like here in michigan english isfirst so i would french braid the tail then take it out for western...
Braid. All of it. French braid the forelock then pull it up like you would a button braid. The mane goes in a bunch of tiny button braids to make the neck look longer. The tail goes in a french braid too but you only take the smallest sections imaginable and pull them horizontally across the tail bone. French braid to the bottom of the tail bone and then continue with a regular braid the rest of the way down. Then, wrap the braid around the bottom of the tail bone and tie it off.
Talk to your trainer or barn manager... It depends on level of show, and the style popular in your region.
Traditionalists will say braid (individual braids that get folded and then secured so that the mane will have dozens of braids going down the neck) the mane after pulling it to about 4 inches in length and braid the tail at least past the tail bone into a french type braid after the tail has been pulled around the dock and the tail has been banged. Both the mane and tail should shine and be clean like brand new.
However, does your horse have a long mane? Are you going to a local schooling show and this is your only show of the season? Maybe altering your horse's appearance is too mcuh for just one show.
If this is a bigger, recognized, or formal show. You better dress and groom the part. Better to be the only one that dressed for the party than the only one who didn't.
Ask at your local tack shop about how people dress and groom for the show series that you are going to ride at. Ask the ring steward or show manager how riders in your division groom for the show.Their phone numbers are ususally on the show bill.
I always had my students braid no matter what kind of show we went to. I think that staying up till late the night before the show braiding is part of the show experience. Most great show memories have nothing to do with winnings or prizes, but the great friendships that you make prepping a horse and meeting people in between classes.
Best wishes
Depends on what kind your horse is, and if you would be showing western on the same day. if you are just doing English you could do a running braid( if your horse has a longish mane ).
get some one to teach you how to do show braids, that require yarn. That looks really nice! unless it is a very big show, just make sure his tail is clean and shiny!! :0) good luck
I would either braid the mane, or just simply pull it. I would do a french braid in the tail and then when you reach the point where the actual tail ends and its just hair, switch to a regular braid, leaving quite a bit out.
button braiding the mane and if you want, you can braid the tail (french braid it). most of the a rated shows do that.
