I have a horse with an injury to her leg. When we got her back for being stolen she was cut, and they tried to sew it back up, now there is a knot where they tried to do that should the knot be cut off or will it be okay to just leave it alone?"

First of all, since your horse was stolen, you need to get a vet out to give her a post theft physical to make sure there are no hidden injuries or other problems. Since these clowns apparently could not get the first aid right, there is no telling if other damage may have been done. Then you can get the vet's opinion about the knot. Glad she is home.
Depends on how much you care. Take the horse to a vet, and get professional help.
ask a vet. poor baby. pamper her until you know what to do. i really hate to say this but it might come to putting her down. if it does...so sorry. really i am. it may just be that they need to undo those stiches and give her fresh ones. but...plan for the worst, hope for the best!
good luck!
Have an equine specialist look at her before you decide to do anything.
A) call a vet B) get her a tetnus shot booster ASAP C) call in a surgical skin specialist (there is usually one hanging around Vet. Universities). A friend of mine had her Ch. Arabian Stallion turned loose at the stable by a really drunk worker. Her stud got into a fight with a gelding who thought he was a stud and it left blood everywhere. The vet stiched him up, but she should have gotten a specialist because he has scars now and can't be used in halter class.
It depends on where the knot is. If it is on the bony portion of the leg then you should beable to have it cut off. If it is near the tendons on the leg then that is alittle more difficult to have cut off. My horse has a knot where he cut himself but it is intermixed with the tendons so I just dont mess with it. If its not actually bothering the horse and you arn't showing her where you would get docked for a defect like that then I would say just leave it.
yeah cut it off in a suple dayz
If it's a sutture that wasn't cut off properly, take some nailclippers or something and clip iot very carefully, but check with the person who did it as it may have been left on for longer since it may have taken longer to heal. If it's part of the horse, I'd leave it there unless it was causing the horse discomfort.
I'm glad you got your horse back!
Def a vet job.
Then find the M@$%^#*%26) that did that and do the same to them..
I wish your horse the best of luck!!
What it really depends on is what the knot is from. Is the injury still healing? If so, is the knot an infection? If it is just the damaged tissue swelling, the knot may go down on its own as the injury heals. If it's an infection, contact your vet ASAP because it may be life threatening. If the injury is fully healed, then whether you have it removed or not depends on a couple factors. For one, is it causing any pain or discomfort to the horse? If it is, and it is approved by a vet, then by all means, remove it. Other than that, unless she is a high quality show horse, I would say leave it be. Subjecting her to more only increases the chance it could become infected while removing it, there is no guarantee she'll be scar free anyway, and if it's not bothering her now, why chance having her be in more pain from a secondary procedure.
If you can afford it, take the horse to the vet, or to a knowledgeable horse person in your area. Without seeing the knot it is difficult to say what to do.
If you need to test it yourself; then (a)observe to see if your horse is acting like its normal self. (b)try to observe if it is still open, (c) if hair has grown back in over the scar tissue (d) is it tender to the touch? (e) does it seem to stop the horse from normal movement (f) it the horse is used for showing then removing it for cosmetic reasons is an option (g) they may have had to inject the horse with something to be able to stitch it . this is something that may be worth getting checked too.
There is a condition called proud flesh that happens with some wounds, it creates a knot, but depending on where it is, depends on how much it affects the horse. My mother has a 23 year old Arabian Stallion that got kicked in the side by a mare when he was 12, and even though it was stitched, it turned in to proud flesh. But we rode him all the time (he is the best!) chasing after cattle and what not!
Take your horse to the vet.
I know how expensive vets can be, TRUST ME!! But its really worth it. It could be the difference between life or death.
Hope your horse makes a full recovery!!
All the best
You need a vet. It could be an infection. Have you pressed charges on those losers?
I would take the horse to the vet to make sure everything is ok.
Vets can do you a lot better care than I. I'd say it depends how clean the horse's conditions are. You don't want any infections!
uh gee not so sound rude or anything...BUT TAKE IT TO THE VET! If they stole the horse, why would they sew up a cut and give her back?! Sounds alittle WIERD
You need to call the vet because that could be some kind infection
Call a vet. It is probably extra skin that wouldn't even effect him. Good Luck!
