Do stuff tonight like clean tack, band the mane (put a slinky on), clip etc so you don't have a mad rush in the morning. Take a moment and write a list of what you need to take and then get it all together. Remember, it's not the winning but the participating and everyone has to start somewhere. Deep breaths, visualize success and just enjoy the moment, it's not supposed to be a bone crushing pressure unless it's the World. Go out there with a positive attitude and try have fun with your horse. You can go over it later what you did or didn't do and what you can do to fix things or improve next time around. Riding tense doesn't look good so just go with the flow - good luck and let us know how you do!
Groom your horse beforehand. Softly speak to it and give it encouragement. Then whip out a bottle of Elmer's Glue and tell your horse if it doesn't win it will be shipped off to the Elmer's factory.
i show my self, i had one today at the Travis county expo center. all you need to do is stay focused, don't let your friends get you off track. just tune everyone out but your trainers. go in to your flat class, and just do your best. work on the things that you know you have been having trouble with. good luck at the show!
Stay calm!! After a few shows you will do much better. Just stay focused, You'll do better. Good luck %26 I hope you do great!!
Just stay calm! as im sure you know, when your nervous your horse will sense it. What i usually do is just pretend im at home in my own arena doin my thing, and not worry about all the other people around me. Just stay focused.
Good luck, hope that helps
Heels down, chin up.
Ditto what the last person said. Heels down and stay calm. Just don't think about it that you are in a horse show - take a deep breath when you get there, and RELAX. When you get to go into the ring, just think that you are schooling your horse and riding like you do every other day.
The showring is not a place to be teaching yourself or your horse anything - just do in and do what you do, and don't worry about how you place. As long as you walk, trot (on the correct diagonal), canter (on the correct lead), stop and change directions, do the same thing and line up in the center you'll be fine.
Think of a horse show as a test of your current skills - not a place to push harder for something. If you didn't do well last time, maybe you will be better this time, maybe not - but it is the learning experience that will help improve you in the future.
And, are you showing w/t/c hunter or equitation? If you are doing hunter, it's being judged on the horse - if you are doing equitation, it's being judged on the rider. Bear those things in mind and you may do a little better, or at least learn where you can improve.
Mentally prepare yourself. Before you go picture everything mentally in your mind. Remind yourself of the right techniques on whatever it may be. For trot, imagine yourself posting correctly, on lead changes go over the steps mentally of what you need to do to get your horse working for you.
Most of all just be confident and go in there knowing that you are a winner no matter what you do!
Good luck! :)
Here's the best advise you will ever get. Are you ready? Just relax and have fun. The winning will come when you relax, have fun and just let your training take over. GOOD LUCK!
First off you need to know why you did not do well the last time. If you don't know, you won't do well this time either. You need to know what to work on.
Did your horse respond well when you gave him a command? When you reversed, did he turn well? No matter what class you show in, you should give a good performance with both rider and horse appearing as one image.
Put all your trust in your horse, believe in him and it will show through you! Best of Luck.
