I have an AQH mare that I want to begin showing in halter.?

She has really good conformation and is ready for showing. How do I begin? How do you get to bigger shows? Do I have to just do small shows then get bigger and bigger? Help?!

There are several good books out there on training and selecting your horse for halter. Now days there are thousands of good looking horses out there, so if you want to do really well you need to do all your homework. There isn't enough room to give you all the answers - that's why entire books are written on the subject!
Obviously the most important thing is to select an appropriate horse. Good conformation is important, but a halter horse also needs bulk, size and something a bit extra to catch the judge's eye.
I would suggest taking your horse to an AQHA trainer who specializes in halter horses. You don't necessarily have to leave the horse there to be fitted - although many people do as a trainer can get your horse's weight perfect, can put on the high gloss shine to their coat and train them to set up. But even if you just take your horse for one afternoon a trainer can tell you what sort of talent he thinks your horse has. He can suggest what level of shows you should compete at. A half decent horse might do super at small, open shows and yet never have a chance at a big AQHA show, so you could benefit from his advice on your horse's abilities. Then get some pointers, go home and work, work, work.
A halter horse needs excercise, good feed, top grooming and training to set up, stand quietly, move at a walk and jog and be used to busy show enviroments. Once again, reading a book or watching a DVD on halter is helpful, and talking to a trainer would probably be even better.
Good luck. Halter often looks easy - after all, all your horse has to do is lead well. But it can easily be one of the toughest classes to succeed in!
The cheapest way is start small and work your way up.. If your county has a 4-H club for horses that is a good place to start. They work up to Class A shows and when you win all your halter classes on a constant basis that is when you can move up and will be able to qualify for the big shows (that costs tons of money)
the best thing you can do is first start just getting her used to all the things you wo9uld have to do in those classes like setting up and trotting in hand. if you could get in a 4-h group for horses that would be great then go to the shows with them, start at smaller shows and maybe work with a trainer so they can tell you when the bigger shows are good luck!!
earn points in smaller shows and qualify for state shows to get to bigger shows you can go to different saddle clubs all around the state
start small. i do halter, barrels, endurance, jumping, all kinds of stuff i always do small local shows then later once you have won a few or placed good start with shows a little bigger and keep getting higher. hope i helped.
