I have an 18 month old appaloosa x qh colt. When I got him, around 10 months ago he was solid bay.?

Only white markings were a star and white to the fetlock on one foot, as well as four small white spots around the wither. In the past week he has developed heaps of scattered small spots, I believe called 'snowflake' pattern? along the length of his back. Is he likely to develop more, at what age do they usually stop colouring?
Answers:
appies develope more "appy" color as they age . he will probably continue to get more for years. and also roan shows up a lt more with age. he could turn out to be almost white. plus with roans, they will look totally different in the summer than the winter. its just a crazy color!
this really isnt a answer if fact i think its just the opposite my daughters pure white 2yr old is growing more and more dark brown ,more like mahogany spots every time he is brushed it seems, my sister in law has a 1 year old Appaloosa that was sold to her as a 6months old has now turned basically a bay he is jet black on his legs and that same mahogany color all over w a black main and tail but everyone we talk to says that they have up until they are 3 until they reach their color my advice is just hang on they will surprise you everyday
He should stay the color he is now. On solid colored colts you can look at the muzzle hairs and tell what color he will be when he matures. ie. if a colt is gray and has black muzzel hairs, he will probably turn out to be a black horse. There were probably some markings on the skin, under the hair of your appaloosa that weren't visible under the baby hair.
It's like just about everything, look close and know what you are looking for and where to find it.
The breeder I dealt with for my two appys said it can be as much as four years for the colour to finish out. I had a solid bay filly that we kept hoping two faint spots would develop, but no go. Hard to say at what point the snowflakes will finish at, even looking at the parents is often no help with appys. The filly was solid blood bay, dam was buckskin, sire was red roan with blanket. Likely at this point it will just be more development in the snowflakes. Is he out in the sun alot? That can change the coat too, bringing out the white.
We have a Paint x Appaloosa and she is loosing her patches and gaining spots. Appaloosas coloring are a dominant gene so it normal to start getting spots she is a 1yr filly. We also have a Paint W/O any patches but he has socks and a blaze, and a Appaloosa with no spots but has a star and thats it. So he may get more spots and they will stop coming at about 2-3yr. Have Fun!!!!!!!!!...
He probably will continue to get spots and don't be surprised if he roans out...
Appys don't usuyally start to get there color untill they are yearlings .As for how much color he'll get is anybodies guess ,with them it's like Christmas you have to wait and she what you get. Whatever he'll be beautiful.
